Everlance and Gridwise alternatives

Updated September 6, 2026 · published by Baker Ventures LLC · sources cited inline

Work out which thing ran out, because the answer is different for each.

Everlance's free cap. 30 auto-detected trips a month, which a delivery driver exhausts in under a week. Stride is free with no cap; TripLog moved to free automatic tracking in 2026.

Everlance's price. $10.99/mo or $89.99/yr. TripLog Premium at around $59.99/yr is the closest like-for-like.

Gridwise's price. $14.99/mo or $107.99/yr, and worth it if you use the earnings analytics. If you were using it as a mileage tracker, you were paying a large premium for something two free tiers cover.

Missed trips or battery drain. Neither of those is a price problem and switching to a cheaper version of the same architecture will not fix it. Measure your capture rate first.

Why people actually leave Everlance

The free cap is a demo, not a tier for anyone whose job is driving. Thirty auto trips is roughly one and a half busy evenings.

Battery drain comes up repeatedly in reviews, as it does for most of this category. The cause is architectural — continuous location polling burns power and gets the app suspended, which is why battery complaints and missed-trip complaints appear in the same review sections.

The trial has historically required a credit card, which is a documented friction point.

None of that makes Everlance a bad product. It makes it a product built for realtors, contractors and consultants doing a handful of business trips a week, which is who it targets. Full comparison.

Why people actually leave Gridwise

Almost always the price against the use. Gridwise Plus is $14.99/mo or $107.99/yr, and the value is in multi-platform earnings sync and market insight — genuinely the most complete of its kind in the category.

If you use that, do not switch. Nothing else offers it and you will notice.

If you were using it for mileage, you were paying $107.99 for something Stride does free, and some flows require a manual start, which drivers complain about — forget to hit start and those miles are gone.

Legacy annual subscribers grandfathered at $59.99 are in a different position, and that price is genuinely competitive.

Before you switch, check the thing price will not fix

If your reason for leaving is missed trips, changing apps at random has maybe a fifty percent chance of helping, because most of the category shares the same architecture.

Run the odometer check first. Photograph the odometer, drive a normal week, photograph it again, compare against the app's total including personal driving. If the app is more than a couple of percent low, that is your number, and you now have a benchmark to hold the next app to. It takes two photographs. The full method.

Also check the settings before you blame the app: location permission set to Always, battery optimisation off, and stop swiping the app away from the recents list. Those three account for a meaningful share of "this app loses trips."

Switching without breaking your year

  1. Export before you cancel. Everlance and Gridwise both export. Once a subscription lapses, retrieving it is somebody's support queue.
  2. Note the switch date. 2026 has two IRS rates — 72.5¢ through June 30, 76¢ from July 1 — so both halves of your year need dates intact. The two-rate explainer.
  3. Set the new app's permission to Always and exempt it from battery optimisation. This is where switchers quietly lose their first month.
  4. Run the odometer check in week one. You switched partly for reliability; verify you got it.
  5. Keep both exports. Two partial-year records stapled together are a complete year. One export and a memory is not.

Where MileTruth fits, disclosed

Ours, in development and not released, planned at $59.99/yr. It is built for the two problems price does not fix: capture rate as the primary engineering metric — motion-activity and geofence wake-ups rather than continuous polling, back-filled trip starts, unclassified-by-default trips — and true net dollars per hour from a cost-per-mile model built out of your own vehicle.

If you need something today, it is not an option. Every mileage app compared, honestly.

Pricing verified from each vendor's own page in September 2026 and this category re-prices often. TripLog's 2026 free-tier change is reported largely by TripLog and affiliates and sources conflict, so verify it at source before switching on that basis.

Questions and answers

What is the best Everlance alternative?

It depends what ran out. If it was the 30-trip free cap, Stride is free with no cap and TripLog moved to free automatic tracking in 2026. If it was the price, TripLog Premium at around 59.99 a year is the closest like-for-like. If it was battery drain or missed trips, the answer is a tracker built on motion activity and geofence wake-ups rather than continuous polling.

What is the best Gridwise alternative?

If you wanted earnings analytics, nothing else in the category matches Gridwise and switching will cost you that. If you mainly wanted mileage and the 107.99 a year stopped feeling worth it, TripLog or Stride cover the tracking for far less.

Why do people leave Everlance?

The three recurring reasons are the 30 auto-detected trips per month free cap, which an active driver exhausts in under a week, battery drain, and the credit card historically required for the trial.

Is Gridwise worth 107.99 a year?

If you multi-app and use the market and earnings insights, it is the only product offering them and the price is defensible. If you use it as a mileage tracker, you are paying a large premium for a feature the free tier of two other products covers.

Can I switch mileage apps mid-year?

Yes, and export before you cancel. In 2026 this matters more than usual because the year has two IRS rates split at June 30, so both halves of your year need their dates intact to compute correctly.
